Objective

Altezza Travel, one of the youngest and largest travel companies in the country, aims to design a user-friendly interface that enhances the salesperson’s workflow, incorporates a modern design aesthetic, and infuses “safari vibes” to reflect their industry. Picture an interface with playful elements to make an 8-hour workday more engaging and visually captivating for the sales team.

The Challenge

The main challenge we faced during the redesign process was creating a visual concept that was not only more visually appealing but also easier to navigate and modern, while incorporating a safari vibe into the UI. At the same time, we needed to find a way to present information effectively, ensuring agents could manage inquiries more smoothly.

The Solution

In essence, the solution we’re working on involves breaking down the information structure on each page, then reorganizing it based on the priority of the data that needs to be displayed according to the information we’ve gathered. We’re also developing a new design concept that meets the needs of being simple, modern, and attractive.

A clutter-free workspace

Our usability audit highlighted several areas of confusion within the group traveler registration page, a key page where users spend a significant amount of time. Issues such as similar element appearances, unclear element contexts, and poorly structured information placement increased the cognitive load on users, thus raising the potential for user errors.

To enhance the user experience, we conducted in-depth interviews to better understand user interactions. Using these insights, we redesigned the page with a more structured and visually appealing layout. We improved readability and minimized clutter by making each element more informative, organizing content more clearly, and introducing a more spacious design.

As a result, the page now communicates information more effectively, alleviating cognitive strain on users. To enhance the overall aesthetic, we introduced custom illustrations on the homepage, seamlessly blending functionality with the desired “Safari Vibes” to create an engaging and immersive experience.

“I want to add a bit of “Safari vibes” since we work in the safari industry. Maybe we could add a bird sitting on the interface ot the face of a honey badger. Something that will make the 8-hour job routine more attractive for the sales person”

Clear context of the information

The importance of clear communication is crucial for delivering optimal service, as seen in the page designed to manage tent distribution for hiking group members. In the previous design, a major issue we identified was the lack of clarity in how tents were assigned to each group member who had booked this service.

The importance of clear communication is crucial for delivering optimal service, as seen in the page designed to manage tent distribution for hiking group members. In the previous design, a major issue we identified was the lack of clarity in how tents were assigned to each group member who had booked this service.

To address this, we analyzed the context of each piece of information and made it more comprehensible. This involved adding clear buttons for tent allocation, displaying detailed information about the last data update, and reorganizing the information structure to highlight the significance of each detail. This resulted in an information architecture that is clear and easy for users to understand.

A simple change, significant impact

On Group Details page, we initially identified an issue with the “Edit” and “Delete” buttons being too prominent, drawing excessive user attention. However, upon further exploration, we discovered a subtle yet impactful issue that could potentially mislead users. For example, only displaying the status of “Upcoming” transfer information and the way “Pickup Time” was presented made it harder for users to notice these key details.

However, upon further exploration, we discovered a subtle yet impactful issue that could potentially mislead users. For example, only displaying the status of “Upcoming” transfer information and the way “Pickup Time” was presented made it harder for users to notice these key details.

To address these shortcomings, we made the following improvements:

  • Moved the Edit and Delete buttons into a More menu, freeing up space to display more information in the table.

  • Increased the font size of the Pickup Time information to make it more noticeable at a glance.

  • Added Done and In Progress statuses for transfers to provide clearer and more comprehensive status information.

These changes ensure that users can access essential details more easily and intuitively.

Better Hierarchy

Here, we found that the information hierarchy in the previous design could be confusing for users. It was a challenge to dissect and organize the information to determine what users truly need and what is unnecessary.

Here, we found that the information hierarchy in the previous design could be confusing for users. It was a challenge to dissect and organize the information to determine what users truly need and what is unnecessary.

To address this, we conducted interviews to uncover the required information and its context. This allowed us to understand the user’s needs better and come up with new ideas to improve the hierarchy on this page.

With clear information grouping and hierarchy, the interface becomes more organized, offering users a better experience overall.

“Our current challenge is trying to make the platform highly informative for the salesperson, but it feels overwhelming. We’re unsure how to improve it”

Improved Information Categorization

We identified that the activity table displays all service categories but lacks a filter to show specific categories. This can lead to a poor user experience, especially when dealing with a large amount of activity data that needs to be displayed.

To address this issue, we implemented a category filter, allowing users to select specific activity categories. This improves efficiency in completing tasks related to activities. Additionally, we redesigned the overall table layout to present information more clearly and with a neat, visually appealing design.

Efficiency in Presenting Data

The “Personal Details” page is the section that displays the most customer information. Deciding which information to prioritize and grouping it according to its relevance presents a significant challenge on this page.

We conducted interviews to assess the importance of each piece of displayed information and organized customer data accordingly. With well-structured data grouping and clear presentation methods, users can reduce confusion and quickly find the information they need.

The Result

The main issue we identified during this project was the overwhelming amount of information displayed without considering its hierarchy, leaving users feeling overloaded.

By refining the layout to make it cleaner, selecting colors for each element based on the weight of its information, and organizing the hierarchy more effectively, we were able to enhance the user experience of the Altezza web app. This improvement ensures that the goals of achieving a more modern, attractive, and informative design are met—without overwhelming users with excessive information.
